Kingdom of Loathing

Ive been addicted to this game called Kingdom of Loathing (link) for about 3 years. And one of the interesting things about it is that many people in the community have created greasemonkey scripts for the game.
Greasemonkey is a plug-in available for Firefox and I believe for Opera as well. What it does is let people who write scripts change the look or add things to websites. For example I hate people with tons of stuff on their facebook profile or myspace profile so one of the scripts I have take away all the applications from facebook and all the media and custom styles from myspace, which is very useful.
Anyways back on topic, one of the scripts that I love is color familiars (the game is black and white stick figure drawings) which added some color to the game. Then the creator of that script decided to make a whole Color KoL script and Ive been helping out with making some of the images, you can check them out here. Its been a little tedious because once you think your done with one thing or area you can build off of it or improve upon it. But otherwise its been quite rewarding to see it in the game that I end up playing everyday. The above image is Mt. McLargeHuge which is one of the areas that I just finished today. So if you get a chance drop by and try out the game, its really quite addicting and a great time waster.

Google Street View Boston

Yawkey Way (Summer Time Grille)
(Boston, MA)

Today Google Street View Boston is released and after playing around with it its not just Boston. It includes many areas outside of Boston and even reaches Worcester and little ol’ West Boylston. I’ve collected a couple of images that I thought were interesting and places of note. Hit the jump to see the rest of the places.

Many people have noted that these could be a privacy concern but I don’t think there really is a concern for me, anyways who wants to stalk me? Anyways who actually reads this that doesn’t know me? (To see a bigger image right click on the picture and click View Image, this might only work in Firefox, but you should be using it anyways)

Photoshop boredom

So Ive been pretty bored recently so I decided to mess around with photoshop and some tutorials that I found online. The first was a word that was supposed to look like it was a comet. The second one is supposed to be the background on a mac. I’m still trying to perfect each of them but for now its keeping me on my toes and getting me used to photoshop and using different effects and tools. If anybody wants wallpaper size click here.

Wiffle Ball USB Flashdrive

I had an old flash drive that was bent and I didn’t use anymore and I had seen many custom USB devices so I decided I would make my own. It didn’t take very long and was actually a lot easier then i thought it would be. Hit the jump to see step by step instructions and more pictures.

Gas Tanker Explosion

This morning at about 1:30 AM a gas tanker rolled over and leaked 9,000 gallons of gas in Everett which then exploded. About 40 vehicles were burned and 200 people were evacuated. Two or three triple-decker’s were on fire and burned to the ground. Luckily nobody was injured, the driver got away before it exploded.

So why do I bring this up? Well I couldn’t sleep and saw it on the Eye Opener News on channel 5 (link to story here) and decided if I could see anything from my apartment. Here is one shot that I got from my window:

You can see two larger version here and here. You can just make out the smoke through the trees. Which is pretty amazing because according to Google Earth I’m about 4.61 miles (as the crow flies) away from it, so you can imagine the size. All I can say is that I’m glad I don’t have to commute because thats going to cause some major problems.
